Joshua Johnson’s work begins with the common objects and media projections of late-capitalist culture, and examines them in materialist terms. He is interested in the consumer object qua object, and its indifference and even hostility to the society in which it is situated. This perspective is often expressed in an affective quality of horror, which is evident in many of his works. In 2011 he was a resident artist at the Fiskar’s Artist in Residence program in Fiskars, Finland. He has exhibited works at Columbia College Chicago, the Convent of St. Cecilia in Brooklyn, and Riviera Gallery amongst others. He received an MFA from Hunter College in 2011 and his BFA from Western Michigan University in 2005 with a double major in Painting and Philosophy.
